Going into GEP

Hi all, I have gotten into the Gifted Education Programme (GEP). I'm still deciding whether I should go into this programme because if I do, i may lose a couple of old friends. It is an extremely rare chance to get into GEP, and I think most of you will encourage me to go for it. Well, I'll set up a poll for this.

Hello, congratulations for getting into the GEP! My opinion is that you should pray and ask God whether you should go into the programme or not. He knows what's best for you.

Young man, though your blog is new, I'm very impressed by your ability to work with computers. You created this blog all by yourself? The poll and the chat box too?

Unless I underestimate the ability of children today, you are definitely qualified to enter GEP. What Andrew says is right. Finally, I'm not taking part in the polls -- it's for your friends to decide.

Hi. My name is Alan Koh, and I entered GEP in 2000 at Nanyang Primary. Congratulations on getting into GEP, for it is something that'll potentially change your life. It did for me, anyway.

Do think through it carefully, though I would personally advocate it without hesitation. First of all, being in GEP means you won't be *too* bored in class - the work's generally challenging enough to require *some* effort. Also there are many opportunities open to GEP pupils that aren't available to others. Not to mention that once you become a GEP, you'll always remain one - you'll be part of a closer community that may be loose, but will never truly disappear. The sense of solidarity will persist into Junior College (I attend RJC right now, and I still identify very much with other GEPs).

Do keep in contact with the friends who didn't get in - that's very important. Remember to maintain a wide social circle. And work hard!

Best wishes on your GEP journey.
